There are really three main reasons why I love substack. Here’s the breakdown
Email Newsletter
This may seem insignificant, but I dare you to go out and find a newsletter that is easy to use and implement and is affordable. I got inspired by reading Fred Wilson’s Ask A VC newsletter, because with his, he can do two things exactly at the same time. Send a newsletter which also is a blog. It is powered by feedblitz. I tried to look into how to use it, and it didnt seem as straightforward, and the site looked kinda clunky, so I didn’t use it. I used to use mailchimp, but it was also getting pretty pricey with the number of emails you send out through the platform. You can at the moment, send out as many emails as you’d like with no hassles or blockers. I think this is great to build a brand and the formatting of the email newsletter is super easy to use just like Medium. It also easily formats for emails. Mailchimp apparently was good at this, but I have to say, I’d always scream when I;d notice some of the formatting was off when one of those emails were sent out and the logo didn’t render correctly on my iPhone. But i’ll say, Substack’s is amazing! I learned about this platform when getting emails from Anthony Pompliano
Persists as a post
It’s the power of persistence! Just kidding, well actually persistence is important. But when it comes to blogging, I mention above how it’s amazing to write the newsletter already as a blog which persists as an Archive. See my archive here: https://future1.substack.com/archive Then later, if you organize it right….why not turn all of your blogs into a book? Btw…checkout my latest kid’s book on Barnes and Noble. Another thing to keep in mind is if you cut the content from the substack blog, all the links and most of the formatting persists so you can also paste it into a MEDIUM blog so you can increase your distribution.
Subscriptions
Finally, I haven’t done this yet, but when you get enough traction and your blog delivers enough value, substack also enables the power for authors to sell their newletter content as a subscription. The magazine and newspaper industry as you know has been disrupted even more every year and independent authors are getting a larger voice and platform to directly compete with the media & publishing giants.
